[신춘문예]채식주의자 호랑이

옛날 옛적에, 호랑이들이 모여사는 숲이 있었어요.

once upon a time, there was a forest that is full of tigers.

그 호랑이들은 각각의 특징을 가지고 있었답니다.

the tigers had at least one characteristic

그러나 그들의 공통점은 모두 고기를 먹는다는 것이었어요.

but their only common thing was that they all eat meat.

어느날, 특별한 호랑이 한 마리가 태어났습니다.

one day, a special tiger was born in the forest.

그가 맨 처음에 태어났을 때에는 아무 특징이 없었어요.

when it was born, it didn‘t have any characteristic.

그러나 그가 계속 자라나자, 그 호랑이는 고기를 멀리하고 채식을 했어요.

but as it grew, the tiger kept off from meat. and it ate more vegetables.

그는 계속 다른 숲으로 침범해, 동물들을 겁주어서 그들의 채소를 빼앗아답니다.

it kept going to other forests, scare the animals and took their vegetables.

그는 딱 한지, 채소만을 바랬어요.

He only wanted one thing, vegetables.

다른 호랑이들은 이 호랑이가 이상하다고 생각하여, 계속 육식을 하라고 말했어요.

the other tigers thought this tiger was strange. so they kept telling the tiger to eat meat.

결국, 그들은 포기하고 그 호랑이를 내버려 두었습니다.

finally, they gave up and let the tiger to have it’s own way.

호랑이가 더 자주 침범하자, 옆 숲속의 동물들은 화가 났어요.

when the tiger came more often, the animals at the other forests were angry.

그래서 그 채식주의자 호랑이를 골려 주려고 했어요.

So they tried to trick the vegetarian tiger.

그들은 채소를 다 뽑아내고, 그 안에는 풀을 심었어요.

They pluged out all the vegetables and planted some grass.

그 풀은 마법 풀이었어요.

the grass was a magic grass.

그 마법 풀을 먹으면, 목소리가 바뀌었지요.

If you eat that grass, your voice would change.

그날 저녁, 그 호랑이는 또 채소를 빼앗으러 왔어요.

that evening, the tiger went to the forest to take the vegetables.

호랑이는 맛있게 식사를 하고 잠자리에 들었어요.

The tiger had a tasty meal and went to sleep.

아침이 오자, 그 호랑이는 우렁차게 울었어요.

when morning came, the tiger roared loudly.

원래는 ‘으르렁!’이라는 소리가 나야 했지만,

The roar had to sound like ‘ROAR!!!!!’

그 호랑이는 이렇게 울었어요.

But the tiger‘s roar sounded like this

‘메에에에!’

‘Baaaa!’

그 호랑이는 엄청 난감했어요.

the tiger was very shamed.

그래서 자신의 목소리를 숨기려고 노력했어요.

So he tried very hard to hide his voice.

그런데 꼬리가 길면 잡히는 법!

But if your tail is too long, you‘ll get caught!

그 호랑이의 목소리가 들통나버려서, 쫓겨나고 말았어요.

The tiger’s voice had been discovered and he was vanished.

그 호랑이는 중요한 교훈을 얻었어요.

The tiger learned a very important lesson.

자신은 자신답게 행동해야 한다는 것이었죠.

That he had to act like himself, who ever he is.

채식주의자 호랑이가 이 세상에 존재하지 않는다는것도 이 때문이랍니다.

That is why that no longer vegetarian tigers don‘t exist any longer.
